Loud fart gives away suspect’s hiding spot, leads to arrest

According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, over the weekend, Liberty police were searching for a person who a felony warrant for arrest. The person was wanted for possession of a controlled substance.

The suspect hid to avoid police, but apparently let out a fart so loudly, it gave up their hiding spot.

Is ‘dopamine fasting’ Silicon Valley’s new productivity fad?

When James Sinka starts his dopamine fast, he cuts himself off from as many external stimuli as possible. He’ll stop eating, instead only drinking water to stay hydrated. He’ll ignore his phone, laptop screen and other tech devices. And he’ll try and avoid interacting with people as much as possible - including making eye contact.

What the fuck.

I see that there is some gnashing of teeth, and quite a bit of confusion, over what Obama allegedly said at a fundraiser about going too far “left”, etc.

It’s probably too much to expect, but I had hoped that the Democratic party activists would be a bit more sophisticated than the Trumpers.

Obama in private is erudite; public persona have to be dumbed down. So if Obama in private is giving a lengthy discussion, I expect it to be nuanced with a lot of pros and cons for any talking point.

Obama himself I always thought was a bit conservative, quite the opposite of the hate-right who wanted to characterize him as some sort of communist radical.

The reality is that one has to get elected, and in a country dominated by superstition and ancient beliefs, we have to deal with the reality that a strict modernist is going to be in a minority. Thus we need to find ways of triangulating between poles in the polity.

I’d rather do meditation, to be perfectly honest. There’s a guy I like, Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, who has a really refreshing approach to meditation. Basically, it’s like “Yeah, you’re going to get distracted, everyone gets distracted, even me. Just return to the object of your meditation and don’t beat yourself up about it. It happens to everyone.”

Also, I threw a few simoleons at Tedra Cobb, who is running against Elise Stefanik.

She’s apparently picked up $400,000 in donations over the last day.

On a related topic: does anyone here subscribe to TPM Prime? I’m always on the verge of doing it. What stops me (and I know how stupid this sounds) is I had a few interactions in the readership forums with members who can only be described as toxic masculinity assholes.

I happened to wander into a discussion on a article written by a woman who was criticizing Joe Biden’s tendency to be a little too hands-on with women he meets. The regulars were basically being all “Little lady, you’re just overreacting. I can’t believe TPM published this.”

I agreed with the author and got accused of being a “white knight”, aka, a guy who defends a woman only so he can sleep with her. Among other things.

I should just jump in and do it, but honestly, if that’s a sample of the membership there, fuck that. Josh Marshall does a bang-up job and we need more voices like him in media, but I was less than thrilled with some of his subscribers.

My peak weight was probably 260 and at 5’11” I still never looked as fat as Trump. Now part of that is I also have a large frame so I carried it well but I was still obese. I began the year at around 250 lbs and at my February doctor’s appointment I weighed in at 243, nine months of diet and exercise later I’m sitting exactly at 200 lbs with plans to slowly lose another twenty.

The biggest obstacle is that just don’t see him trusting Pence to pardon him after resigning. I mean, I wouldn’t.

But yeah, it would definitely play well with a certain element of the cult how Trump sacrificed everything including his health and the Democrats were just so unfair and mean that his body finally gave out under the stress of MAGAing so hard.

Trump’s problem is his greatest current strength, that he does in fact lead a cult. But it’s not his cult and not exactly Trump per se that the cult worships, but power. These same fucks loved Bush right up until the point where he wasn’t powerful and worshiping him wasn’t useful anymore. A small, possibly significant faction will continue to treat Trump like a God, but most on the right will move on and retcon their past support as simply necessary to own the libs. I think you’re half right: but I don’t recall GW Bush ever getting made quite the object of political “worship” as The Orange Anus has (and carefully crafted his PR to bolster it). I think a lot of it is that Dubya, for all his manifold failings - and they were/are completely goddamn manifold - based his “appeal” such as it was on exploiting the national freakout over 9/11 mainly in the service of foreign-policy goals*. Trump, OTOH, as we’ve seen, doesn’t give a crap about foreign affairs, except as ego-boosting: his political “appeal” is grounded almost exclusively in domestic issues. Unfortunately for the country, the main “issue” he flogs at every opportunity is fundamentally anger and resentment that racism/white-supremacy/ethnonationalism, inextricably linked with inflexible religious fanaticism, is no longer a dominating operating system for this country. The segment of the populace that buys into this extremist viewpoint is sadly, too large to ignore: and moreover, has invested (at least AFAICT) a lot more psychic energy in the notion of Trump As Savior than in prior years.
I think a lot of the Right will “move on”; but I think there will still be a large group “out there” unwilling to accept their Gilded God-Emperor being tossed out on his ass - or even resigning - without at least thinking of resorting to violence to make their disappointment known. I really hope I’m wrong, though.

* I never got the feeling, frex, that Dubya was particularly bigoted or hateful in terms of policy (viz. his failed immigration-reform proposals): for Trump, OTOH, the hate is all he’s really got.

Just dropping in after a nice afternoon out in Hollywood. Got our portion of glaring, threatening homeless guy, unasked for boob exposure from some local woman, high as hell. And street characters. oh my. Anyway made our way from the subway to the Cinerama Dome to see Ford V Ferrari. Alexa Large Format digital looked great in the dome room. Amazing sound excellent editing and a grand American story. American ingenuity at a peak of technology for the day. Intense character story really well played. Christian Bale, John Bernthal, Matt Damon and Caitriona Riona Balfe. Can I go again, please?

(One of my biggest pet peeves are people who think they “work out” by playing golf. It’s barely activity- just look at Jack Nicklaus’s gut. It’s like saying, “of course I exercise! I play darts!”)

(ETA: I will admit that some of my opinion is colored by the class divisions that informed the sport when I was growing up in a highly economically stratified area. There were basically two classes: those who golfed, because their very well off parents could pay for such things, and those who were left spending their time in shity public “parks”, hoping they could avoid trouble from the police or the gangs for at least one more day. I have similar problems with skiing, but I promise I’ll try and keep a lid on that for the sake of the enthusiasts hereabouts. ;) )

re: #218 FFL (GOP Delenda Est)

This was more in the old Soviet Politburo times. Guy not on podium for parade, or suffering from a cold.

There are a lot, a LOT of “town halls” and “ask me anythings” at work. I don’t usually watch them because well, boring as hell. I’ve told coworkers that the only reason I might watch was if I was into the work version of Kremlinology—which was seeing who was in and who was out by who was standing on top of Lenin’s Tomb during the May 1 parade and how close they were to the current leader. I’m not that interested in work politics.

Nothing disappears.

The internet is only forever if something is paying attention to it. There are apps designed to make sure nothing is watching.
